All The World’s A Stage

Most of my adult life I’ve heard the line – all the world’s a stage.  Until recently I have honestly never really stopped to consider what it means.  To me it has always been some Shakespeare line dealing with the theater which didn’t apply to my life.  Then one day I realized I needed to get over myself and focus on something much bigger than me.  Remember we are not here to serve our self, but to serve God.

Whether we want to admit it or not we are ALWAYS setting an example for others. Good or bad people are always watching.  It’s not what we say or write but it’s what we do that really matters.  Our actions (fair or not) either promote or pollute.  We are constantly influencing people around us.  Our actions matter!!  God has already told us we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Matthew 5:13-14

13Ye are the salt of the earth… 14Ye are the light of the world…

You know it’s been said salt preserves (and it does), but it also creates thirst.  Think about it, when we eat something salty doesn’t it make you thirsty.  We should create a thirst in those around us to know more about what we have.  Through the unmerited favor of the Lord we have been given the knowledge of our eternal salvation and know we are saved from the pit of hell.  WOW – thank you Lord Jesus!!!!

Now, what are you going to do with it?  We are commanded by the Lord to let our light SHINE before men to be a positive influence on those around us – this brings glory to our Father.

Matthew 5:16

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

A lot of us have gotten caught up in running from darkness.  If we hear secular music, see someone with tattoos, crazy outfits or ear rings, etc. we immediately do not want to associate with them.  How are we supposed to let our light shine if we are constantly running from darkness? It’s not the healthy that need a doctor, it’s the sick.  Now I’m not saying to purposely seek out the darkness, but when we are presented with opportunities to shine our light we need to embrace them.

2 Cor 4:6

6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Paul had several chances to run from the darkness, but instead of avoiding the darkness he took advantage of these opportunities to let his light shine.  When the Lord opened the doors of the jail and released Paul’s chains he could have easily ran off.  I can say with 100% certainty that if that was me – I’d be running as fast as I could from that jailer.  Instead the apostle Paul stayed and helped convert the jailer.

Light never says a word – it only shines.  You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  Don’t run from the darkness shine into it.  This is who you are right now.  You are a Christ empowered influencer and your life will make a difference.
