The Good Life

How many of us are completely satisfied with our lives?  I mean who doesn’t want “a better life”?  A life the world tells us will make us TOTALLY happy – a life where we can finally fill the emptiness.

Tragically a lot of good people have gotten caught up in this trap.  So many people are settling for the “good life” when God has something incredibly better.  Today the norm is to be stressed out and over worked.  Our culture teaches us if one is good then two is better.  We end up wasting SO much time pursuing happiness that we miss out on the things we already have.  Someone once said “You’ve gone a million miles – how far did you get?”  At the end of someone’s career they never say – I spent too much time with my children.  Instead we waste our days working for things that will burn up while not really knowing our children, not knowing our spouse or more importantly not knowing who we are in Jesus Christ.  It’s time to let go of our double fisted grasp on the good life and take hold of something much better.

Ecclesiastes 4:6

6 Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit

By letting go of what doesn’t matter it frees up a hand for us to assist others in need.  It gives us more opportunities to help.  Maybe someone needs a hand up.  Or maybe someone needs encouragement.  Better yet, maybe somebody needs something we have.  Helping others is one of the greatest blessings we have here on earth.  They seemingly have nothing, but I promise you by helping them you will find they have everything.

Galatians 6:10

10As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Satan tells us we may think we have everything, but what we don’t have is what we really need to make us happy.  So we end up spending our days striving for things that don’t last.  We end up chasing the wind and suddenly our lives are so full of what doesn’t matter we miss out on what does.  Let’s fight for the things that matter.  Throw off the things of this world that weigh us down.  Our Father put us on earth to glorify Him and to make a difference.  We are His workmanship created in Christ unto good works.  His ways are higher than our ways.  God’s love is better than life.

With Christ we have the forgiveness of sin we have purpose and a unique calling.  Our lives are too valuable, our calling too good, our God too great to waste our time chasing after what doesn’t matter.  It’s time for a better life – a life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
