Why Are We Here???

For most of my life I have been blessed to regularly attend a church, but it hasn’t been until recently that I REALLY started attending church.  If you are like me I was just going through the motions.  I was taking my church for granted wandering through life trying different things to find complete unfeigned joy.  Sure I have a great family life.  My wonderful wife Kerry and three beautiful kids, but any joy I received from everything else seemed fleeting at best.  The highs weren’t as high and the lows weren’t as low.  I began to think this is what life winds up being, but then several weeks ago I was inspired by God.  I have had this burning unquenchable thirst from within to read God’s word, apply His teachings to my life and really make a positive difference.  I stopped looking for the “next big thing” and realized this simple truth – We are not here to serve our self, but to serve God.  Our entire purpose on this Earth is to fear God and keep His commandments.  It’s that simple and it’s AMAZING!!

Ecclesiastes 12:13

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

So many people don’t understand the purpose of their lives.  They aimlessly drift through life as their days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years.  Believe me I was there and I didn’t see the simple truth – we exist to bring glory to God – that’s it.  No big mathematical formula, no excuses about all the things I can’t do or I have to do before I can serve.  Just let go of it.  Let go of all the weights that drag us down, let go of our fears, insecurities and self doubts that prevent us from stepping into His will.  There is no problem or stumbling block on Earth bigger than our great God in heaven.  Just let go of it.  When you know who you are, you will know what to do.

 Matthew 10:39

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

  • Matt:

I will enjoy following your blog. Thank you for sharing.

  • Matthew,
This is a wonderfully written testimony. Thank you for letting us in. A few years back, all the churches (or at least a lot of them) were doing a study on the book “A Purpose Driven Life” with the main purpose being to find “God’s plan for you” but you quoted exactly the same scripture that I said to Jim: it’s right there in black and white; we are to serve God and keep His commandments. Like Mimmy said, we are excited and looking forward to many more blog posts! 🙂

  • Right on brother! Do I hear an Amen!?
